The Nature of My Practice
Sometimes, it's hard to admit that we're having a problem. As we look around, others are enjoying life and relationships. Why are things so difficult for us? We used to be happy, or at least thought we were.
Most relationships have pitfalls and take effort to maintain. So too with the relationship with our selves. Because we tend to live a lot in our own minds, it is not always easy to stay objective, or to catch ourselves when we fall. This is where an experienced "helper" can be useful.
We call it therapy, but it can be much more than that. Seldom are we truly 'broken.' Rather, we are more likely to have just taken a wrong turn, or somehow gotten bumped off our path. It's really no one's fault, and it occasionally happens to almost everyone. Good therapy simply helps us get back on track. If you can find someone who understands, often because they've been there too, they will probably know some things that you might not. And, with them as a companion, getting back to the life you want may not be as difficult as you imagined.
We humans are more multi-dimensional than we often realize. And, because I have observed that talk therapy is usually not enough, my work integrates traditional techniques with several newer approaches. For example, the Somatic work focuses on how your physical and emotional self interact and can better work together. EMDR addresses many kinds of past traumas, plus quality-of-life issues. Often we are not consciously aware of our traumas, yet they can dramatically affect us daily, or at least make us uncomfortable in certain situations.
Whether it is behavior modification, transcendental experience, or something in-between that you seek, it could be worth talking to someone. Besides, it's much easier if you don't have to do it all on your own. So, call me to arrange an initial consultation, in my Louisville office, to see if I can help.
Most Sincerely,
Paul
